Roger Tory Peterson had a “Flicker-moment” that got him hooked on birds as an 11 year old. At RTPI, we share the beauty of nature with our community. We challenge each individual to personally confront environmental issues of regional, national and global concern. We work to inspire all to preserve the earth’s biodiversity – with a particular emphasis on the natural area wonders of Western New York.

Not only does the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation help to protect and conserve birds throughout the state, it also coordinates the NYS Birding Trail and the I Bird NY programs, which enable birders of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to get outdoors and get spotting! Hone your birding abilities by visiting a Birding Trail location or by completing an I Bird NY Challenge.
